Diseases
Fin rot- A highly contagious disease amongst merfolk. Its name for the most noticeable symptom: decay of the tail fin. However, other symptoms include fever, headaches, fatigue, delirium, and hemorrhaging. Initial signs are a bruised appearing tale and a high fever, but worsen from there. Thankfully, this disease is rare and typically only is seen in isolated areas.
Descent sickness- This is normally seen among those who come from higher altitude areas and descend further down into the depths of the oceans. Nausea, lightedheadness, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, drowsiness, and nosebleeds are all common symptoms. People urged to descend into lower areas of ocean at a slow rate, and stop frequently.
Gill spots- Brownish spots begin to appear gills, making it difficult to breathe. This disease is very curable in its initial stages, but can be fatal if allowed to progress to later stages.
Frenzy- A rare disease among Adaros. It begins with lightheadness and disorientation. However, eventually the confusion gets worse. Often times, the afflicted become incredibly aggressive and lash out against others. It has shown not to be contagious, but no one is sure what it happens to some.
Chills- This occurs when the non acclimated enter colder waters. Early warning signs are excessive shivering and sluggishness. Many people report that moving and even thinking becomes difficult. Dizziness and shortness of breath are common symptoms.
Sticky Fin- The common cold of the sea. This occurs when the mucus glands under the scales become infected causing excess mucus to build up on the fin. This creates a very sticky slimy fin withe duller colors and general achenes.
Brine Poisoning- Brine poisoning occurs with prolonged exposure to the water in the brine pools. Victims suffer from extreme dehydration and if left untreated results in organ failure.
