Octavian Miles
Introduction
Introduction
Name:Octavian Miles (formerly Octavian Celsus)
Age: 178
Race: Merfolk
Kingdom: Mythicos
Description
Appearance: Octavian is of average size, for a merfolk, if a bit on the muscular end of the spectrum, and would consider himself average featured as well. His jaw is slightly rounded, though still defined, and his cheekbones are prominent, but that may be due more to his leaner face than to his cheekbones being especially fine. His nose is slightly small and upturned at the end; his eyes are just a little bit deepset and silver in color; his hair is surprisingly tame, thin, and blue in color, and he wears it so that is covers his neck and ears without being long enough in the front to get into his eyes. He considers it to be an average face, all in all. His tail has several fins on it (he thanks them, for they help him make turns at high speeds, even if they are noticeable) and is several shades lighter than his hair.
He feels most comfortable in some kind of armor and is rarely seem in anything else, which is also a side effect of his job as a mercenary. His clothing selections, armor or no, have one thing in common: they hide certain portions, if not all, of his torso, mostly in his own vanity. He's acquired several scars in his years and views them not only as flaws, but as signs of his mortality, and would rather not show them to other people.

Like & Dislikes: Most of his likes would be considered normalities: a nice meal, a warm bed, a pretty person to flirt with, some spending money, etc. Such luxuries he can't, or doesn't have the money to, indulge in often, since being a mercenary isn't the best paid or most rewarding work ever. He doesn't dislike much (or won't admit to it), since, as he says, he has more things to worry about. Notably, however, he does dislike Mythicos's rigid nobility and royalty system and is vocal in informing people of this, however it can be noted that he only dislikes the concept of nobility.
Philosophy: Equality and survival of the fittest. It may sound strange, but it's the way he thinks. Octavian believes everyone is equal no matter their social standing, since everything bleeds the same blood and swims in the same waters. He finds nobility pointless and while he does understand that royalty is necessary to invoke laws and to take care of the people, he thinks there could be a better, more efficient, and not class exclusive way to do that. He doesn't understand bloodlines either, since he believes a person's merit is measured by their skills and accomplishments, not their ancestors. He, on the other hands, does believe that only the best adapted should survive (though he himself doesn't say who is adapted or not, since he doesn't think it's his place to say it). In a game of survival, everyone should be equal, even if they aren't due to different social systems.
Background
History: Born into a minor noble family in Mythicos, Octavian Celsus didn't enjoy the wealth of the upper class for extremely long. He was young when his family was disgraced and cast from the circle of nobility, and even if no longer in that position of society his parents still raised him the best they could and sent him through the best schooling they could afford. It was a miserable childhood, between being constantly reminded by his classmates of his family's disgrace and seeing his parents try to survive. Survive they did though, despite the torment and the poverty, and as soon as he was able he set out to find a way to support himself. The military would have been his best option, but there was no way to do that without revealing himself to the majority of society, and he would still be remembered and treated as a Celsus.
He became a mercenary instead. He left home, dropped his real name for something a little bit more common (though he still called himself a Celsus when he could), and worked with a small mercenary band that took him in. He would leave for years at a time, traveling all over the place, returning home for a few weeks and then going off again. He made some money, most of which he sent to his parents, and life went on. For a while, at least. As he grew up he began discovering what it was, exactly, that his parents had done; there was evidence his father had been skimping out on paying the crown and instead had kept money for himself... and rumors that his mother had been having an affair (though he never found out who). He confronted them the next time he was home, stating that he was a grown adult and that he deserved to know whatever truth there was, and he got the truth. His father had been stealing and, well, wasn't actually his father.
He dropped his surname completely then, disowning his family, and became Octavian Miles. That time he left Mythicos's waters for a long time, taking jobs and saving coin. He didn't return to the waters of his birth for some time, mostly from his own feelings that there was nothing left for him. In the past few years, however, he's returned to Mythicos and has been lingering around despite his dislike of the society and his fears he'll be recognized.
